About Us We specialize in unique, heritage and gourmet breeds of poultry selected for incredible taste. We work closely with local chefs to grow the best breeds of birds for taste, size, texture, conformity, and quality. We are 100% sustainable in 2010 for our meatbirds, egg layers and heritage turkeys. Our complete line of poultry includes: poulet rouge type chicken, French heritage broilers, Ducks (Long Island and Canard de Barbarie Muscovy types), Geese, Quail, Guinea Fowl, Pheasant, and Turkeys(heritage and standard breeds). We also have a full line of pastured eggs, including: Animal Welfare Certified Omega 3 chicken eggs, quail, goose, and duck eggs. Birds are pastured on open grass in the spring, summer, and fall. Winter they are additionally fed chemical-free alfalfa and vegetables when inside during inclement weather. They are also sheltered at night in uncrowded conditions. All of our poultry is antibiotic, chemical, drug,& growth hormone free and grown on pasture. Our farm is dedicated to raising rare and heritage poultry with respect, cleanliness, and strict Animal Welfare Approved/Certified standards. Processing is done at a state inspected or USDA plant. We raise these from egg to maturity thus they are 100% sustainable. The Des Moines Register article describes these chickens as the quintessential chef's chicken. This breed has less feathers than any other chicken leaving the skin thin and translucent due to less feather follicles. They are grown longer than any other standard breed of broiler to ensure the most chicken flavor without being tough. This is the same type of chicken grown by Niman ranch. They have a firmer texture than Freedom Rangers, longer leg bones, thinner crispier skin, less fat, and slightly less breast meat. The flavor is amazing. These chickens are raised from direct French parent stock that we have purchased and kept within the strict "Poulet Rouge" tradition on pasture in small flocks.Our chickens are served in many Des Moines restaurants as well as several others throughout the state.
