Genuine Handmade Soap About Us Heart of Iowa Soapworks is nestled among the rolling fields and prairies in beautiful Central Iowa. We strive to provide you with the highest quality Handmade Artisan Soaps and Toiletry products. You won't find any pre-made bases here. Just Genuine Handmade totally-from-scratch REAL Soap, NOT those commercially made transparent "glycerin" detergent bars. Our soaps are created using the Cold-process method. This method insures that the naturally occurring glycerin remains in the final product to clean and pamper your skin. All the soaps are hand cut and trimmed, so slight variations in size and shape is to be expected. We use only Food Quality oils and butters such as: Olive oil, Avocado oil, Sweet Almond oil & Rice bran oil. Fair Trade unrefined Shea & Cocoa butters are used generously to provide an extra emollient for your skin. Since we come from a long line of farmers I offer soaps made from animal products such as Beef Tallow, Lard & Emu oil. Soybean oil is added for its skin care benefits and to keep my uncles in a job. Whenever possible we try to purchase locally direct from the farmer. Our goats milk was purchased from a farm just 3 miles from our house. Now, THAT is fresh! Pure Essential Oils, the actual REAL plant extracts, are included whenever possible for scent and skin-care benefits. Skin-safe synthetic fragrance oils are judiciously used when a scent not found in Nature is desired. The vast majority of our soaps do not contain additional colorant of any kind. If color is desired, naturally derived clays, herbs and plant extracts are used whenever possible. As I sometimes have adverse reactions to artificial color, I prefer NOT to add them to the soaps. Although our soaps smell good enough to eat, I wouldn't recommend it! Keep these products out of the eyes! Absolutely ALL ingredients are listed on the soaps. We can not assume any responsibility for skin allergies or rashes. If you develop irritations with our product, return unused portion for a full refund or replacement. We strive to create a product free of allergens, but the truth is, there is no such thing as 100% Allergen Free. Browse through our Products for Sale Ingredients Olive Oil: Castile, reputed to be the mildest soap for sensitive skin, is historically made with a high percentage of olive oil. This oil is included in the majority of our products. Palm Oil: This tropical oils lends conditioning qualities and hardness to the finished bar. Castor oil: Obtained from the castor bean. This oil is very conditioning and clean rinsing. Creates a thick, shaving crème-like lather. This is a major oil in our shampoo bars. Palm kernel oil: A tropical oil that adds hardness and abundant fluffy lather. Coconut oil: Added for its deep cleansing properties as well as the big, frothy bubbles. Shea Butter: A true Luxury Oil. Obtained from the African Karite tree, this oil is high in Vitamins A&E. Reputed to be beneficial for seriously dry skin conditions, such as Eczema and Psoriasis. A personal favorite for my "experienced" skin. Cocoa butter: Another skin-loving oil. Adds hardness and sheen to the finished bar. Also prized for it's moisturizing qualities. Jojoba: Actually a liquid plant based wax. Very conditioning and a wonderful addition to shampoo bars. This is the vegetable equivalent to our skin oil. Rice Bran Oil: A new oil to the soap making world. RBO contains Vitamins A & E and possesses some of the same qualities as Olive oil. Provides a rich creamy lather. This oil is added for it's natural anti-oxidant qualities. Sweet Almond Oil: from the Almond nut. This oil is used in high end cosmetics. Very soothing with moisturizing properties. Another good oil for "experienced skin". Avocado oil: Another luxury oil. High in Vitamins A & E. A superior oil for sensitive skin preparations. Safflower Oil: A very conditioning oil with properties similar to olive oil. Used in sensitive skin products. Lard: Good Old-fashioned rendered hog fat. This oil was the basis for the very first soaps created. Very conditioning, makes a nice hard bar. I prefer to use lard obtained from humanely-raised, locally produced animals. Support my Farm Family. A note to Vegans: All our soaps have the ingredients listed so you may choose accordingly. Tallow: Obtained from rendered beef or sheep fat. Produces a very mild, snowy white, long lasting bar. Again, We try to use locally produced tallow. Goat Milk: soaps made with goat milk have a very creamy texture that is wonderful for your skin. The natural lactic acid in the milk creates a lather that is milder than just normal soap made with water. Practices (our standards for raising or making our products) I create my soap from scratch with a Cold Process procedure using locally produced ingredients when possible. No artificial colorants are used. |
